Cooking in Enamel ! !

What is an enamel pot?

Mostly it’s what’s known as porcelain or vitreous enamel cookware. This is where glass is heated up to coat a metal base, usually steel, cast iron or aluminium.

To put it simply, enamel cookware is aluminum, steel, or (most commonly) cast iron with a glass coating.

The enamel starts out as a powder, and it’s poured and melted over the metal to create a seamless coating that’s bonded to the pan.

Is it safe to cook in enamel pots?

Enameled cast iron cookware is safe because it is a durable material that does not leach iron, has a naturally non-stick surface, and does not rust. These qualities make it a safe choice as it minimizes the risk of health problems associated with cookware made from other materials.

According to the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Enamel-coated iron cookware is considered safe, so you can cook all types of foods in an enamel pot without worrying about the leaching issue.
